Elon Musk: Tesla Cybertruck will have four engines and crab walk capability
Tesla’s Cybertruck cyberpunk SUV will have independent drive on each of its four wheels and four engines.
The head of Tesla, Ilon Musk, announced that the company’s Cybertruck SUV will have four engines, one for each wheel. Thus, there will be independent and ultra-fast torque control of each wheel. In this way, each wheel of this SUV will have its own independent drive.
The driver of the Cybertruck SUV will have the ability to control both the front and rear wheels. “It will be possible not just to turn on the spot, like a tank, but also to move diagonally, like a crab,” noted Elon Musk. Note that this feature is called a “crab walk.”
According to Reuters, the Cybertruck will compete with such SUVs. Such as GMC Hummer EV, Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. Thus, the R1T has four engines per wheel, and the GMC Hummer can move diagonally.
Recall that the Tesla SUV, which was first announced in 2019, is made of stainless steel, which is used in rocket science, and impact-resistant glass. Several hundred thousand pre-orders have already been received for the Cybertruck.
It is expected that the first production Cybertruck will be produced at Tesla plants next year, mass production is scheduled for 2023. Off-road price is $69,900, range is announced at the level of 800 km, weight 2,700 kg, engine power 775 hp, exoskeleton is used instead of a frame, cabin is fully waterproof, ground clearance up to 40 cm – although, this information was relevant to the previous versions of the punk off-road Cybertruck, with one, two and three engines. Now it turns out that there will be four, and the characteristics may change.
